Beloved Students:
To those of you in the Northern Hemisphere, may the wonder of the blossoming time be upon you, encouraging your own profound spiritual flowering. As you enjoy the energy and activity of the summer, may you continually give thanks for the abundant blessings that surround and support you. To those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, may the time of profound reflection guide you well. As you do the internal work to make ready for the Springtime to come, rest well in the solace of the darkness. I greet all of you with love and joy.
For those of you enjoying summer it is, as you know, a time of high energy. All the little animals are scurrying about, raising their little families, and enjoying the long light hours. Plants of every kind are growing as they grow at no other time of the year, flowering now for the later production of their fruits. All about you in Nature, you can see heightened levels of activity and the shared enthusiasm of all living things.
From the Earth’s perspective, the activity of Her summer in the north is balanced by the resting cold cycle in Her south, and She, as unified whole, exhibits a wonderful balance. What’s even more amazing (although often taken for granted) is the fact that the balance between hemispheres, occurs in an ever-flowing, although imperceptible moment-to-moment, dynamic tension. Indeed, this seasonal movement is a very classy dance! When you consider all the components that must be choreographed with incredible precision, how can one deny the utter magnificence of the dance?
Now for all you good Taoists out there, the process becomes the classroom, and you are seated at the feet of an incredibly creative teacher: Earth, Herself. Although you may not give it much thought, this whole process is a tremendous example of the flow of abundance that supports both Earth and virtually all the inhabitants who call Earth “home.”
When you consider that this dance of life is continually flowing, seemingly without effort on anyone’s part, you can learn something not only about Earth, but the Source Who brought Earth forth as well. When you further consider the phenomenal spectrum of experiencing which this dance supports, you can see very clearly the abundant face of your Source. Nowhere in Nature do you see impoverishment encoded as a theme in the dance. As co-creators of this marvelous dance, this fact can instruct you well. By studying Nature you can learn that the whole notion of impoverishment had to come from some level of consciousness that/who felt separated from the Source. This notion came into play long after Creation was encoded to sustain itself.
In truth, this notion of impoverishment, lack and insufficiency all stimulate comparing mind. Comparing mind brings about a strong sense of separation, which generates the seeds for all manner of cruel acts and oppression. Even a brief view of Earth’s history will demonstrate the correlation of greed to war and domination. In the final analysis, most would not expect to find that all greed comes from some sense of lack, whether real or imagined.
Clearly, what must arise for each is the recognition that if, as a planetary family, we intend to heal greed, we must first heal the sense of lack that begets greed. This is why the old paradigm of generating polarization between spirituality and abundance must dissolve. Such is not seated in the flow of Abundance, nor will it ever generate an abundant connection with one’s Source.
If you study the history of various religious organizations you will discover that one of the ways in which some of them sought to control their populace was to teach them that money was evil, or that it could not be handled well by the common person. Therefore, each should turn over their possessions and money to the religious organization so the believers would not use it in any way that might damage their chances for a happy after-life. In fact, doing so might even enhance their chances in the after-life. This was true in India at the time of the Buddha’s coming. It is interesting to note that often it is in the darkness of corruption and oppression that the Abundant Awareness living within the creative flow manifests One of clarity and responsibility to lead and teach those who can hear. Such is a profound verification of the Source’s abundant and generous nature. Know that this is your nature, too. You cannot be other that the Source that brought you forth, sustains you and holds for your every happiness.
Of course, the whole idea to understanding abundance is so you can let if fall off your screen, isn’t it? In other words, as you heal into abundance, you become less and less concerned with abundance. You discover that abundance is not something you “go out and get,” but rather, it is who you are. When you know yourself to be an emanation of the Source’s abundance and generosity, there simply is nothing to “go get.” You awaken to the light of your true nature (which is abundant and generous), and you live from a place that holds the truest, purest form of renunciation. Such is renunciation from a point of abundance, not from a point of lack. In clarity you understand that what may appear to be giving up the “good life” is really a situation of seeing through all lack and insufficiency – all the way to your true nature.
As a student of humanity, you may have observed those who were proud of their lack of abundance. In a kind of reverse elitism, these individuals often see their mission as flying in the faces of those whom they perceive to be too attached to the physical world. They often pride themselves on being the kind of “gadfly” that Socrates boasted of being. Some even have the feel of being refugees in a land that “flows with milk and honey,” to borrow a phrase. They may even convince themselves that they have the true form of renunciation. However, if you pay attention to the energy they may be giving off, you will perhaps notice that little emotional charge coming from them that demonstrates their lack of clarity. After all, if someone appears proud of their poverty, you must ask yourself if there isn’t some piece of the puzzle missing. What’s missing, of course, is their understanding of (and their connection to) their abundant Source.
Some who may appear proud of their poverty, may be using this approach as a tactic to fool themselves into thinking they are highly spiritual when, in fact, they simply do not know how to manage money. There are individuals who feel they are better off not having money, because if they have it, they will spend it unwisely, or use it to indulge certain demands of the ego which may be destructive. To these folks, it seems that by not having money, they are not tempted to waste it or to overindulge the ego. However, as with any other area of one’s life, avoidance is not mastery.
Truly, we could go on to discuss the many life areas that fall into the realm of abundance. In truth, virtually every area of one’s life is affected by one’s understanding of abundance and lack. Living, giving and sharing abundantly is not the same as “throwing one’s money (or other energies) away.” Mastery comes through a careful working out of all the little scenarios life presents as one carefully inquires within as to the beliefs held regarding abundance and insufficiency. The premises from which you create your life must be carefully investigated if you want abundant freedom from suffering.
Please join me this month in listening to a special teaching I recorded in Glenwood Springs just a couple of days ago, called Living an Abundant Life. I offer this teaching to you in the hope that you may all know full abundance in all areas of your life. May you bless yourselves and all those around you by dropping old notions of insufficiency and lack. May you deepen in your ability to let the abundant Source of All Being simply flow through you into the life you are creating. Recognize how projections of lack create destruction and oppression. This is true whether the destruction and oppression come from some source outside yourself or whether it comes from within. The net results are all costly and void of freedom. Rest in the natural generous self you were created to experience.
I remain your loving teacher,
Djwhal Khul
