December 2006 Lesson

Date:December 1, 2006

As we quickly approach the ending of 2006 and the beginning of 2007, I greet you all in wonder at the apparent movement of time. Know that I hold for each of you a gentle and graceful transition, and the realization of your true nature. If I could give each of you a gift this holiday season, it would be to see yourselves as I see you. I know and so love the radiance you seek to establish upon Earth at this time; and with you, I celebrate the great expansion of Light that is now dawning.

As you close 2006 and enter 2007, may you do so with confidence in your path; confidence in the process of transformation, and confidence in all those who, before you, made the same incredible journey of Consciousness. May your journey bless not only your own steps, but may the abundant grace of our Source expanding afford infinite opportunities for liberation and healing for all who can open to it.

As most of you are aware, I encourage all of my students to do a year-end review at the close of each year. It is useful, and appropriate, to contemplate the close of each year as if it might be your last. This is not to set the mind upon a morbid course, but rather to help one be continually aware of how precious each and every moment is. While powerful and forever arising, life itself is quite fragile, providing absolutely no guarantees for the drawing of even one more breath. Since each exhalation has the potential of being your last, it is wise to rest in the knowledge that you, too, could have a fragile connection with the life force that courses through you. This level of attention will help you live your life to the fullest, no matter how long, or short, the duration.

Death is, indeed, a profound mystery. Very few people actually listen to their own words regarding death. For example, when you speak of a year “passing away,” what do you really mean? Where does it go? And what is it, exactly, that has “passed?” “A package of time,” perhaps you say. Yet, that terminology is quite vague; and upon deeper scrutiny, really tells nothing of the mystery at all.

Indeed, mystery will always surround those truly profound experiences that cause humanity to “plumb the depths” of Life. It is often the impending threat of “the terrible” that causes folks to dip below the mere surface in their lives. Thus, walking through your life with the necromancer at your elbow is a powerful way to “cut to the chase,” as the saying goes, in your own depth journey. Stay mindful in every moment so that you not only see the doors of opportunity when they present themselves, but that you harvest the intense preciousness of every single moment.

As we have noted many times before, “mindfulness” is the answer to many of the questions a spiritual aspirant is likely to raise along the journey. One of the most difficult “legs” of the journey lies in accomplishing mastery with regard to emotions – one’s own, or those projected to come from others. We who are now offering our support and aid to you who are working on this particular point of mastery often reference it as the “last frontier” of the spiritual journey. In many ways, it is the most hidden path, for very few people ever question the veracity of their own emotions. While many do try to suppress emotions (particularly emotions of others that they deem unpleasant), the truth of the matter is that everyone is enslaved by their emotions.

Indeed, witnessing the emotional struggles of others should raise compassion for the arduous nature of the process. Further, it should inspire each of you to greater efforts in the accomplishment of your own mastery, leading you to dedicate every step of the journey to the ultimate mastery by all beings. If you learn to become a high witness (rather than simply reacting at every emotional moment), you will discover much of what it is to be fully human. You will see that some people cover their anger with hurt, while other people cover their hurt with anger. You will see that many people deal with their pain by justifying it – even if their justification means relatively little to those they seek to convince. You will see how prickly people become when their defenses go up, which means only that they are in pain. Hopefully, you will also learn to be compassionate for the pain and emotional sensitivity others display without buying into their karmic projections. Now we’re talking Mastery!

In being high witness for the emotional transformation of the planet’s inhabitants (of which you are one), you will probably observe the lengths to which people go to avoid change. This is true for most – even if they are suffering greatly in one or more areas of their lives. The ego is very tenacious; and as you bear witness to its dance of delusions, please recall that your ego, too, has its delusional moments. Redouble your efforts to break through not only your personal delusions, but the collective delusions shared with others who have similar karmic imprints to dissolve.

As you dissolve the karmic imprints that limit your own creative power, dedicate all your efforts to the collective process. Know that it is your privilege and your responsibility to bring about an end to the profound levels of emotional suffering so rampant in your culture today. If not you, who will take on this great service to humanity?

Please join me this month in listening to the lecture I recorded on November 17th entitled: The Crown of Bodhichitta. It is my wish for each of you that this teaching will inspire you to redouble your efforts to gain your enlightenment.

Your loving Teacher,

Djwhal Khul
