March 2007 Lesson

Beloved Students:

I greet you this month in peace and loving generosity, appreciating fully the beauty of our work together. Please accept my sincerest gratitude for your efforts to make 2007 a tremendous year for actualizing the multi-faceted jewel of potentiality that promises liberation for those who actively engage in the realization of enlightenment. While such may sound like a big proposition, it is time to begin taking seriously the prospect of enlightenment for the planet, and for individuals and groups as well. To that end, I have designated 2007 to be a “year of kindness,” and am enlisting as many of my students as are willing into a year of service to Earth. This “year” will begin at the time of the vernal equinox, and will continue until the vernal equinox of 2008.

This is a time of potential healing among many factions on Earth at this time. Of course, such also contains tremendous opportunity for healing any factions that may exist between the ego mind and the mind of Essence, which so seeks to be a part of a great healing for Earth. To this end, the Vajra Flame Foundation will be offering a number of helpful tools for all who would like to be a part of this year of service. A calendar is available on-line for the specific areas of focus throughout this coming year, as well as a transcription of the lecture I gave in January wherein I set forth the plan for the coming year. These are available – as will likely be additional tools – at no cost, and are offered in the spirit of support and blessing for our beloved Earth and all sentient beings who are part of the precious experience of life on this planet.

March has been designated as a time for preparation and purification for those who are participating in this year-long service agreement. It is a time for opening the heart and mind to the acknowledgment that there are pressing needs arising from the planet, Herself; and it is as if She is requesting something of her beloved children. Those inclined to assist Her in this time of spiritual initiation, are now paying particular attention to how their individual minds respond to Her pleas. Some will be able to literally “feel into” Her heart and experience Her call directly and personally. For others, this journey of service may seem less a direct personal call, and more an offering of love and faith. In either case, those who choose to become part of the solution (rather than part of the problem) will never regret the choices and decisions they now make to offer their help for cleansing Earth in the 21st Century.

Beginning with March 23rd, we will officially enter our collective year of service to Earth, and from March 23 through June 22nd, our collective focus will be on non-violence – both at a personal level and at a planetary level. I sincerely hope that each of you will reach out to your friends and family members, supporting them in finding non-violent solutions to whatever issues and problems arise for them in their personal journey. Encourage them to be less angry, less depressed, less impatient, less critical, less condemning of self and others; but more desirous that bodhichitta spread throughout the entire Earth. Encourage each other in the persistence of patience and the ongoing application of kindness, and remind yourself (as well as others) upon arising each morning that your entire life has lead you to this time, where you not only can, but fully intend, to be a part of the solution.

Encourage your friends and acquaintances to join you in actively making choices that benefit the planet. Such may involve decisions at literally every level of your life: from being more engaged in recycling programs, to making choices that are cleaner in the cars you drive, or the amount of time you run those air conditioners (both in cars and in homes). Possibly, some of you will find your way to becoming active in some of the many non-profit organizations working to strengthen the ozone layer; or to cut back on toxic waste; or to reduce the release of hydroflourocarbons into the atmosphere; or that of greenhouse gasses, or perhaps the reduction of toxic plastics in the environment.

Others of you may engage in raising general awareness of the population at large – perhaps talking with school-aged children who are the ones into whose hands you will place the future of the planet. For many of you, this type of engagement with the planet may call you to judiciously consider those running for political office in a new way. Instead of simply voting along party lines, find out who among the candidates seem to have a sense of responsibility to the Earth. If you truly seek out those who are compassionate toward the planet, you are likely to discover that such matters do not necessarily run along party lines.

Our lesson for March, The Greatest Gift, is on the topic of non-violence in general, but on reconciliation in particular. I would like each of you to be delving into personal levels of violence that you can shift to a non-violent model. I realize, of course, that most of you do not consider yourselves to be violent individuals. This is a good thing, for if you did consider yourselves to be violent people, you would certainly find yourselves creating acts of gross violence. Our goal with this lesson is to learn to “ferret out” those little areas wherein the mind resorts to some form of violent thinking – a state which could then cause you to move into a state of mind that is uncomfortable for you, possibly even inclining you to then foist your own discomfort on someone else. While subtle, this is fundamentally an act of violence. When you think with blame of yourself or another, you are in a violent mind state, and your equanimity is destroyed.

Of course, it is tempting for the ego mind to look out at others, and in its self-justification, to determine how violent “they” are. If you know that the ego mind will likely be tempted in this way, you can call back any projections it may make toward others and focus rather on the fertile territory within your own mind. In truth, you would probably be better off in this assignment to completely forget about all those “others.” Search out the areas wherein you are violent to yourself. Believe it or not, one of the areas that is being experienced in near epidemic proportions today is the area of depression. While moving beyond the self-violence of depression may prove to be “the work of a lifetime” (to quote a Teacher you all know and love), from a planetary perspective, it was never more important that you take on this project. Yes, it will require sustained effort and sheer dedication to breaking those familiar habits of mind that open to depression (some of which will likely be difficult to find). Even so, you will be contributing greatly to the collective experience by taking on the ego mind. For those of you who know depression, we must be careful here that you do not just find one more reason to be down on yourself – i.e., judging yourself negatively because you have not as yet been able to throw off the effects of depression in your own life.

As you listen to the lecture this month, you might come to the realization that you do not as yet know how to live without the presence of violence – at least in your mind. This is an amazing discovery, since most would prefer to believe they would have no problem at all in accepting a truly non-violent social reality. Of course, it should go without saying here, that a truly non-violent society cannot really even be considered by the mind until all those tiny little violent thoughts (often unconscious) are brought into the light of Consciousness for dissolution, and then completely eradicated from the thinking and feeling process.

That being said, creating a truly non-violent society is possible, and the more each of you considers it a possibility, the more likely it is to become a reality. Indeed, as each of you cleanses the violence that hides in your own mind, you do begin to have the outward experience of living in a world that is becoming less and less violent. This is the magic of the mind’s manifesting a “reality” from something other than those old karmic imprints. Just considering sharing a non-violent “reality” with other sentient beings is working on both personal and collective karmic imprints that have manifested the current violent “reality” to which you have become accustomed.

Please join me this month in listening to my most recent lecture for you, The Greatest Gift. I encourage each of you to enter this year of service not only for yourself, bur for the liberation of all sentient beings on Earth. Celebrate your journey and serve each other in the profound opportunity for Earth.

Your Loving Teacher,

Djwhal Khul
