Beloved Students:

As we move to the close of 2007, I believe we have much to celebrate regarding the strides that have been made toward a more peaceful, perhaps saner world. Of course, much of our work has been more influential at an energetic level than at a physical level, and therefore has not, as yet, become fully manifest in the conventional reality. As you know, our work has largely been to generate a field of potentiality for the planet, and I believe our summing up project for 2007 would indeed be remiss were we to overlook even the least of the energetic openings made available to Earth. Thus, as 2007 dissolves into 2008, we can celebrate both that which has opened, as well as that which is yet to come.

In quite general terms, I do see, overall, a tendency toward heart softening in my collective body of students. The softening of which I speak here is one that arises when one quits struggling, and is not quite the same, from a frequency standpoint, as is softening which arises through the practice of opening into the Great Heart. Both are beneficial; and it is interesting to note that it is more the former that has taken hold among so many of my students and their small groups here in the U.S. Among other things, this may mean that many of you are, Indeed, finally going to give up struggling. What a wonderful gift for the planet!

Although your individual efforts as an organization have not increased our numbers significantly, they have at least demonstrated success in strengthening and deepening affinities and connectedness among some of you. As you may now draw upon the strength and deeper connections some of you are experiencing, perhaps 2008 will be the year you extend yourselves more to the world at large, and allow the bodhichitta you cultivate and the grace you share to pull more people into our Vajra Flame Foundation.

Most of you have taken steps, as well, to deepen into your own healing – or shall we say the healing of the karmic suffering – that, in some cases, has been pulling at you for lifetimes! If you set your intent to go even deeper into that process in 2008, it is likely that you will be offered opportunities to see through those karmic imprints altogether. Such may, indeed, motivate you to risk actually stepping into mastery, which is, of course, the core level of all healing.

Perhaps you are able to feel the great wave of longing for peace that is arising in the world at large. As it arises, its very presence also brings humility. For even with all that longing energy, the attainment of global peace as yet still seems but a distant dream – perhaps a dream for future generations. Yet the very fact that the longing is not only arising, but is becoming stronger and stronger each day, is a great indicator that spiritual efforts to realize peace have truly been successful.

While some of you may have some difficulty fully appreciating the success I am here speaking of, it is, nonetheless, most important that you count the success of this co-creative feat. Counting this accomplishment as a personal success will not only strengthen its efficacy, it will also give you a means to mark your own service to Earth as well, and give you great opportunity to celebrate your journey.

Of course, the healing-into-Peace we have been trying to establish on Earth involves more than simply stopping wars and armed conflicts of one sort or another. The truth is that these are merely the outward manifestations of the states of being extant with the subtler mental and emotional bodies of Earth (carried by all Her sentient beings). Most of you already understand that it is difficult to have peace in your own relationships and circumstances when you are not fully at peace internally. Of course, the same principle applies to the collective consciousness of a planet, which is why we must address the relative peace states of both the mental and emotional bodies of our precious Earth. Just as it is impossible for an individual to experience peace in her/his outer world when inwardly s/he is at war, the same is true for a planet. The next step is to bring the energetic openings created in 2007 from the inner (i.e., energetic) realm to the outer (i.e., practical) realm of experiencing.

As we enter 2008, it should be pretty clear that the next step in the planetary progress is to first find the internal state of peace that can then be manifest outwardly into the shared physical experience of those who populate the planet. Of course, the essential question that must now come into focus is how to do this. As you think about this question, it should become apparent to you that the neutrality you have been cultivating heretofore is the only creative means available to you to accomplish this feat.

Clearly, if your own inner world is a mess (i.e., fraught with fear, anger, greed, obsessive tendencies, or practices of denial), you are not as yet even capable of establishing peace in your own life. Thus, this recognition must behoove you to ruthlessly scrutinize your mind, to ascertain how it is that you are unable to be fully established in peace. How does your mind take control of your potential peace and offer you something else instead? What are your compulsions? Where are your areas of denial? In what areas do you just not want to be bothered to accomplish mastery? Where are your personal points of hopelessness and/or helplessness? As you scrutinize your own mind, you must come to see any and all the limitations you experience personally as now a liability to the planet.

Now the idea here is not to generate guilt and shame as you reflect on limiting areas in your life, but rather to inspire you to let go of those karmic imprints that hamper both your own progress and that of the Earth. What is needed presently is vast neutrality, both for the limitations that you perceive to be your own, and those you perceive to belong to other sentient beings. Take corruption, for example: as long as you are highly reactionary to the fact that it exists, you are not likely to make much of a difference in the presence of corruption as a part of your own experiences and those of the conventional reality. However, when you become neutral to the fact that corruption exists (and has always existed in some form among sentient beings who perceive themselves to be in competition with other sentient beings), then you are ready to move beyond the limitation of allowing it to “yank your chain,” as the saying goes.

The same is true for all areas in your life. Whenever you find yourself becoming reactionary, you are not really in control of your mind. The truth is, whatever you are reacting to is actually in control of you. When you feel your aversions arising, such is your first clue that you have given over control in that moment to your aversions. The same is true for any emotional flaring, no matter how subtle. Can you see that your only hope for transcendence comes through neutrality? This is equally true in your service to Earth as it is in your own growth process. Remember, emotional reactions arise only because you have projected some meaning upon what you believe you see arising before you in your life. In truth, the meaning is always “up for grabs,” so to speak, and it is your karmic imprints that cause you to “grab” in the predictable ways you have previously “grabbed” meaning.

Please join me this month in listening to Peace on Earth, a lecture I recorded for you a few weeks ago. May it remind you of what you came to accomplish; and may it bless you throughout the month and into the New Year with many insights and realizations.

May you have a wonderful holiday season, and may you experience a new dawn in your spiritual journey as you open to the dawning of a New Year.

Your loving teacher,

Djwhal Khul
