Beloved Students:
I greet you in the wonder and magnificence of a planet in change, and I celebrate with you the amazing opportunities that are beginning to unfold in the journey of Earth into a new reality. May you open to the exquisite forces that now come forth, and may you dedicate your every learning, your every spiritual movement, to Earth and Her sentient beings.
As you contemplate your personal journey, what are you observing? Are you paying close attention to the movements of your mind? Although we have talked a great deal about this task in our past work, the assignment remains very much in the present. As you observe the movements of the collective "mind" of Earth's offspring, it is most important that you find a way to stay on top of your own mind – both in terms of what you take from the collective experience and what you reflect back to the collective experience.
As you already know, the entire world is now paying attention to the economic profile of the United States. Yes, it would appear that this country is on the slippery slope of significant recession. While such may be the manifestation of the conventional reality, is it the manifestation you are calling into your own reality? I have been noticing that many of my dear students, who have spent years working on mastering the coming and going thoughts of ego mind, have slipped right into the perilous slide of fear and anger that is arising in the field of the conventional reality. If you notice your own mind slipping into any of these familiar patterns, now would be a great opportunity to examine your own habits of mind. Remember, this is part of your service to the planet.
What are you using now to pacify your mind? Like the hungry infant who has nothing but the fake nipple of a pacifier, are your own thoughts merely driving home your mental hunger pains? Do you find yourself gnawing on thoughts that feed your fears but give no nutrients to your body/mind? If so, it is time to look a bit deeper into the movements of the mind.
Back in the old days when you were running around in animal skins for clothing and living in caves, your learning episodes fell much more along the lines of what we would call "direct experiences" than do they today. When you were frightened, you likely took one of two paths: either that of fight or that of flight. By the present time, however, you have all gone “psychological” with your experiencing, and this represents quite a change from your ancestors’. You have found a way to do much more of your experiencing on the inside rather than in your outer world. The fight response has been replaced by anger, and the flight response by fear. And I hope it is clear to all of you that these are much less “direct” than your ancestors’ experiences since you undergo them prior to actually facing a threatening event as well as after such an event – a feat that would not have served your ancestors at all!
In fact, you have evolved this internal world to such a complicated level that you have even added a third option your cave-dwelling ancestors did not have: to the potential options of fight and flight, you have added “freeze.” Clearly, this is not an option that would have served your ancestors at all since it would likely have triggered far more casualties to the clan than the gene pool could withstand. However, these internal experiences so common to you today are indeed powerful, even if they are created and experienced in an indirect way, happening only in your inner world and leaving no trace in your outer world. Still, you suffer.
Let me once again remind you that 2008 is a year of changes, many of which will be personal to you. Thus, consider yourself fortunate if you have already found areas arising in your personal life that offer you some type of change – particularly if these arise in situations that seem to trigger your fear and/or your anger. Remember, it is impossible to transcend any state or condition you resist. Denial (unfortunately, for those of you who prefer it) simply will not sharpen the blade you use to cut through the karmic conditions that now arise to greet you.
Most of you realize by now that if fear is your nemesis, you must face it completely if you are to discover who you might be on the other side. The same is true of anger. These two negative emotional forces are rising to the surface of the collective reality for deep scrutiny. But alas, so is the negative emotion of freezing. If you’re a “freezer,” you likely know depression as well, since the replication of this stance can lead you only straight into depression. Thus, it appears that the conventional reality is resolving its non-clarity right in your own mind. What a miracle!
Clearly, there is an ongoing and abiding relationship between your mind and the conventional reality. In fact, for most of your lives the two have been completely inseparable. It is only when you begin to grow in the awareness of your own buddha potential that you can negotiate the subtle distinction between the two. While this line of distinction at first may be very subtle indeed, you will discover the void between them is infinite. Thus, 2008 will give you multiple opportunities to carefully examine just where that line of distinction lies in your own manifest reality.
Now, just in case you missed it when I noted this fact previously, 2008 is a year of changes at many levels. Because fear, anger, hesitation and depression are "on the block" so to speak, in the conventional reality, each of you will have opportunity to solve – perhaps resolve – the lingering issues, problems and projections, as well as other unsuccessful attempts to cut through these emotional predicaments. The first step is to recognize them for what they are: emotional constructs not to be confused for reality.
Above all, please promise yourself that when your specific projection arises, you will not fall into the trap of defending it. Do not blame anyone else for the fact that you have a karmic predilection to fear, anger, hesitation and/or depression. Rather, just go to work on ridding your precious mind of the thoughts and feelings that have “done you in,” so to speak, so many times previously. Notice the relationship your mind sustains to the conventional reality, and “get a grip” (I believe the saying goes) on the reality you choose to manifest for yourself.
While fear, anger, hesitancy, and depression do feel real (indeed, they are really experienced), know that they arise from the karmic imprints you have carried perhaps for lifetimes. It is up to each of you to dissolve the karmic seeds (bakchaks) stored in your own subconscious mind. No other being can accomplish this on your behalf. As we have noted many times before, such mental clarification can happen only with careful scrutiny and ruthless honesty on your part. Becoming angry that you have to do the work creates only a larger, more impenetrable wall of resistance.
Please join me this month in listening to a lecture I recently recorded for you called The Play of Karma and Emptiness, in which I take you a little more deeply into these matters. Give yourself another opportunity to explore the miraculous mind; give thanks for your growing ability to understand and transcend your mind, and dedicate the fruits of your labor to all who do not understand these matters.
Your loving Teacher,
Djwhal Khul
